Does anyone have any tips on sunroof maintenance, hopefully with photos? I know the goal is to clean and lubricate but dont see how to access the mechanism.

I'm hoping to learn the same.
From what I can tell from the Bentley, is to open the roof a few inches--Just enough to access five small clips that hold the headliner portion to the exterior roof. Then push that headliner part back. From there the cables and channels should be exposed. This is all from memory of what the Bentley says. So having never actually looked, I could certainly be wrong.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Also, what's the recommended grease, and where is it to be applied?

Huh...Maybe no one ever performs maintenance on sunroofs.

From the searches I've seen on the topic, once they fail, are too expensive to fix, they get sealed up permanently.

Heading on vacation tomorrow for a week in Asheville, sans van. But when I get a chance I'll try to check it out and report back.

I always snake the drains then blow them out with compressed air. After I have had it closed all winter I will open it slowly and then push it open without using the crank. The cables are exposed on both sides I clean the tracks with a damp rag and then use a brush to get dirt and rust :cry: out. Then I spray white lithium grease along the entire track, close it, then repeat.

The most important thing is to check the drains often. If it has been raining I look for damp spots on the driveway. If one drain is more dry I snake it. Some of the drains behind the front wheels have rubber plugs. I just removed these.

how do you get to the front drains? the pair that go down into the B pillar?
