Try booking.com. You can choose language and currency. The calculator seems to work only until May '13 right now.

I've also had good luck with travelocity.com. You can at least get rates and locations. Many hotels in Europe are small, privately owned (and the best ones to stay at!) and if they even have websites, they are usually pretty simple. But most will answer e-mails in english.

I stay in a larger hotel in nearby Hameln (sp?) because that is where the guy who lets me drive his vintage cars wants me to (!). They have a nice locked access underground garage (that the '64 ladder truck won't fit in BTW) and it is along the river. Nice place, I can find the name of it if you want, or maybe someone here knows it. I think it was about 10 min drive from Hessisch.

But being a year out now, you might have a pretty good chance of getting a room in Hessisch if that is where you want to stay.

I have no idead where to stay, so any suggestions are welcome. I will try booking.com.
johnshenry, If you could get inf on the place you stay that would be great

In 2009 I stayed in Apartment-Hotel Hameln. Got it through booking.com. The hotel was nothing fancy but good enough to crash overnight because let's face it - you will be busy checking out vintage VWs all day and checking out the beergardens at night. It had good sized rooms - great for a family with kids. Hameln is about 10-15 minutes drive from Hessisch-Oldendorf. Hameln is a good sized town with plenty to see and do. The only thing is that you need to drive so take it easy on the beer and schnapps

The city of Hessisch Oldendorf has a tourist information, where you can book rooms & more:

http://www.westliches-weserbergland.de/de/hessisch-oldendorf/

If you have no luck, you may can ask for rooms in Rinteln, which is the nearest city westside of Hessisch Oldendorf - less than 10 Minutes in a vintage car from there to the event. You can find.

Nearby the Autobahn Exit of Lauenau, you have a nice and modern Motel named "Montana". Even this is not far from HO,

Best regards & see you in 2013

Pardon my ignorance... but can you get a train or bus from either of these towns to HO if you're not with a vehicle?
thanks

Im there from the UK, gonna look on booking.com pretty soon

johnshenry Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:39 am

I believe you can. Go to Google maps and look around, the train lines are shown as are the stations.

Stetoppingphoto Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:45 am

Can i ask where you park for the show if your driving a later VW like a Bora for instance?

eurodub Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:56 am

i will drive the 52 split but unfortunately won't register. so i guess you'll see it parked somewhere near a mint condition 57 big window black/red, not in the split avenue :)

how about another samba meeting at noon in the beer tent? 8)

Hello,
why do you dont register ?
Christian

ZwitterND Fri Jun 22, 2012 3:11 pm

We have a transferable time share, any chance of using it nearby?

eurodub Fri Jun 22, 2012 3:19 pm

One of the reasons is financial, Christian. From my place to Hessisch i have 2000km one way, so that might add up to 4500km in my 2 weeks vacation. Gas prices went up, and Romania is not in a very good economic situation. Prices go up, my salary not. Besides that, i have to overcome also a hostile exchange rate from RON > EUR. If i have to choose between 2 full tanks and the Hessisch registration, i know what to choose. I am not complaining, nor i want a lower tax, i am just saying that for me, on a tight budget is hard.

The best i can is to be there, with the split, not in a modern car. Wait... i don't have a modern car...

Here is an image of Hessisch Oldendorf. See the central roundabout, if you look up and to the right a bit you see a carpark surrounded by shops. I usually managed to find a spot there for the rental car. The red oval line is where most of the activity takes place and the church (where the VW38 was exhibited) is marked with a red square. Right a the bottom of the image in the lower left corner you can see the train station marked with a green/white S. The camping area is beyond this image diagonally to the right from the roundabout.

ovalcr Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:27 pm
