View original topic: 30 pict-3 idle cut off valve questions

Ok I have begun checking basic things on my Ghia. Although it runs, idles, and shuts off fine, my idle cut off solenoid does not work. I don't hear any click, even though it is drawing current.

First question: I have searched the Samba classifieds and don't see a cutoff valve that looks anything like mine. The ones I see look like they have plungers out the business end. My solenoid looks like it has a brass air jet on the end of it. Are these things available?

Second question: Is the air jet removable from the solenoid? Mine has hex wrench bosses but I cannot get it to unscrew from the solenoid. Should it?
Thank you

Borrowing from a recent post by Andy... aka "glutamodo" Here is some useful information for you.

Okay, most people just do away with the electormagnetic idle cutoff solenoid on the pilot jet, which is what you are talking about. It's called the idle cutoff valve too. It's there to help prevent run-on (dieselling) when you turn off a hot engine. You do mean this thing, right?

You can buy just a plain jet and put it in place of the cutoff valve.

That is what I do, and usually do not have any run-on issues, and on rare instances when I did, I just do what I think John Muir said, and just let off the clutch with it in gear and the brakes applied.

You can buy new pilot-jet style idle cutoff valves here:

If you replace it with a plain jet, you'll have to look on the current cutoff valve for the size. Probably 50 or 55. You can see the size on the photo I posted above.

Plain pilot jets are usually easy to find used. New, online, places like this:

Keith, you beat me to it! I was going to just quote that but thought I'd find some more links and part numbers if I could this morning:

Looks like VW part number 111129413B and 058129413D are the ones that are being used for that valve these days.

Some links:

I guess these part numbers used in the early 60s are no longer in use:

Thanks a bunch to your request as well as the input from the other
Samba users. I am rebuilding my 30-pict carburetor and needed to have that same question answered. :P
