Hello everyone. This is my first post. I've been a member of the site for years but I'm just now getting around to exploring the forums! Great reading about these early buses that are now being saved considering how they might have been thought of as scrap a few years ago.

This reminded me of a bus I saw in Rhode Island years ago. I used to be very active in getting old buses back on the road and selling parts at shows. I once came across a farm in RI where there were a bunch of buses, bugs t3's etc....including a very crusty barndoor. I gave the owner a small amount of money and he let me have anything I wanted off them. I loaded my bus and roof rack that day! The barndoor didn't have a whole lot left on it but I took a few things just because I wanted to save something off of it. Now I'm wondering if someone wouldn't want the shell of the bus to restore? If I rack my brain I may be able to come up with the town it was located in. But maybe someone has already saved it? Does this bus sound familiar to anyone?

I think it still had the transmission in it because I didn't have time to pull it out. I remember the roof was really bad. Like if you were inside it and pushed up you could probably push it right off the bus!

I'm sure you've already received multiple private messages but yes, if you care to share where it is I'm sure someone will check it out.

Yeah, I'm the one who removed that decklid. I sold it to a guy in CT who had a barndoor that he was working on. Can't remember his name though.

Wait....we know each other? Did I sell the decklid to you? Now I'm not sure who I sold it to.

OK, remind me of your name. Did you ever restore that barndoor?

i got a 64 doubledoor panel from you. i ended up selling it as i had no place to keep it. it traded hands a couple times after and not sure where it ended up.

i still have my 53. definitely not restored.

My head is spinning.
culcit (Joe Snow) says that he wonders about a barndoor in RI.
Uzi says "a guy in CT" said the place was gone.
The "guy in CT" is the guy Uzi says said the place is gone.
SO, is the place gone, or not?
Barndoor keyboard detectives want to know!
Thanks,
j.

p.s. I was on the mission to pick up the doubledoor panel, and briefly met culcit, I believe. Unless I'm dreaming it.

Thank you for the welcome. As to where the bus was in RI, I have scanned a map and nothing popped out at me. I'm afraid the last 12 years or so has erased the location from my memory. I think it was in the north west part of the state in the vicinity of rt 6 but that's all I can tell you. Are they still there? I don't know....if they are gone then that's news to me. UZI, if I told you they were gone (which is possible) it was just to throw you off the scent because I had always planned on going back and loading up on some more goodies!

I love it. honor among thieves! Welcome culcit. You'd better remember where that place is quick, because the search is on!

I just remembered something. JP Jacquet (Freeloop bus) told me about the place initially. If someone knows how to contact him then he may remember where it is. Good luck!

Good news for you barndoor guys who are up for an adventure....I just found an old address book of mine with the info about that farm in Rhode Island with all the buses and one very crunchy barndoor! Who wants to go on a scouting mission? PM me and I'll give you the info. My only request is that you report back here with your findings.
