All- has anyone ever found or have a 311 905 205 R distributor?
I have seen references to it and heard others talk about it but I have never seen one in the flesh.
I was lead to believe it was a replacement distributor for 1500 'S' vehicles....???
Would like to see one please! |

I have one - I'll get some photos
It came on my factory replacement engine in the T34
I replaced it with a restored cast iron one
Oh - the R-type is an alu one !

I have a distributor for the 1965 1500S engine. 311-905-205E.
It has dual return springs on the vacuum unit, and no mechanical advance. |

The R-type has both - just like the cast one

That is what is funny. The 65 1500S whether the early,(311-905-205D) or the late, (311-905-205E) were both replaced by the 311-905 -205Q, and not the "R".
The "Q" is also listed as the replacement for the '66 *205F and the 67 205G.
Neither of the later were the high compression engines.
I wonder why the 65 1500S was not listed as using the "R" distributor for a replacement. |

Looks very similar to the one sold as the SVDA. It would be interesting to put it on a distributor machine and get the advance curves, and compare them. |

Bert... I trust you 101%.
Actually I wonder when the distributor was fist sold. It must of been in the 70s from the look of it. |

Differences would probably just be the springs in the centrifugal advance and in the vacuum can. |

What is the difference between an "R" and an "L"? I received one in a box of parts with the same numbers, only and "L" on the end. |

All Type 3 distributors, basically will have the 311-905-205 number.
The letter designation tell what it was originally designed for.
In your case, 311-905-205L is a 68-69 Fuel Injection distributor.
It should have a set of trigger points in the base of it. |

Yes.
Even if you do not have a vacuum take off for the vacuum advance. Just the mechanical advance is better than the 009. |

Interesting this distributor thread!!! My record which is VW 5th supplement, 3.48.539.105.20 in 02/1973 states that the replacement distributor for ZV/JCU4R3 is 341 905 205( and that is, according to every parts listing I have, the ZV/JCU4R3!!). Replacement for 311 905 205D and 311 905 205E is 311 905 205Q. In all the advance curve charts I have, there is no mention of the 311 905 205R, or distributor tables either...very wierd...Might crank up the microfiche from the 80's and have another look for supercessions... |

My parts book is supplement #10. I think that is the last one for the T-3.
I will look when I get back in the house. |
