hello all. i am in desperate need of the drip tray measurements for a 71 westy. i have an earlier one (which won't fit) but need the size of one as shown in this thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=286260&highlight=drip+tray

i have been running a WTB ad, and have had offers of beat ass ones. i guess if someone will get me dimentions, i will just fab one out of stainless, or hang my head in shame knowing that i can not partake in the uselessness of the factory cooler

Nothing useless about them at all, especially since Corona now comes in cans here (twice the storage space and lighter  ), I'll get you a measurement shortly.

Should be the same size as your ice rack bottom edge :)

I have the drip tray. It is 13 1/2 x 11 3/4. It is missing the drain tube but you can get a clear tube at the fish dept of your local pet shop.

Tray is 4sale..... make offer :)

Mine is narrower at the rear - wider towards the front.

Left to Right = 33cm (rear) x 34.5cm (front)

Front to Back = 30.8cm

Corners are rounded and curve approximates that of a US quarter.

Drain is located to the right rear and is 1cm OD, .7cm ID; located 5.25cm from right side, 4.25cm from rear (both on center). Usable length of tube from bottom is 1.5cm.

Depth of tray - 2cm at corner nearest drain, 1.5cm at diagonal corner.

Let me know if you need more measurements and/or pictures.

BusDaddy sorry to jump the gun on you. I set about on measuring mine and later saw your reply.

Skills, if you happen to make an extra one, let me know. Obviously mine has seen better days.

i don't know man, it is a bit more complex than i thought. i figured it had a pitch to it, but mapping out a plan in my head, it seems that it would be a lot of work for something that hopefully i could purchase. provided, that is, i can find one :?

My trip out to the garage to collect that tray information almost cost me some serious body work. After I took the tray out, I left the bus side door open, obviously thinking that I'd get around to closing it later.

Well, a strange twist of fate almost did me in. You see, I have a two car garage and the bus is in one half and a family car resides in the other half. They are separated by retractible attic stairs. One of the springs on the stairs went haywire months ago, so they barely stay closed from a balance perspective. Normally that's not a problem.

So my kid had the other car at work (late shift). It has a bike rack on the back. Unbeknownst to him, someone raised the horizontal arms on the bike rack while he was at work. He quit late and so it was dark. Therefore, he couldn't see the black rack sticking out from the back of the car.

He drove it home, parked it in the garage and closed the garage door. The door descended and struck the bike rack arms with a fair amount of force before reversing (the system is 30 years old). The shock sent a vibration through the garage, which cause the attic steps to let loose and suddenly descend.

The door of the bus is normally not open and there is sufficient clearance. However, due to my failure to close it earlier, the margin was "lessened". That's too close of a call from another dimension.
