Does anyone know what this connector is for? It’s hanging below the heater controls and looks factory, has BK, BN and GY/WH wires. BK is hot with key on, BN is ground and GY/WH is ?? I’ve looked thru all wiring diagrams in the Bentley and can’t find any GY/WH wire called out.

That connector isn't used.
It was supposed to be for a dash OBD light that California was forcing cars to be equipped with.
This emissions system related display requirement got delayed a few years and Vanagons never implemented it.
The Bentley 88 wiring diagrams show it and the 88 Owner's Manual does also.
