you guys gonna come to the World cup in Brazil? Catch a boat to Suriname and drive around the top of South America and then down...Its really beautiful crossing several rivers on ferries, bandits, not much gas. Should be fun too!
I have been thinking about driving my Westy... |

Beating Brazil was nice, but beating Brazil on their home turf is even better 8) |

what an accomplishment!! This trip was even more of a challenge than the Beijing trip, you have certainly earned my respect!
I haven't been following your trip as much as I should and just checked in on the thread today..
The fact that the megapuke system failed doesn't surprise me at all, chances are the either heat or vibration or both combined to kill the unit. The system has worked great for many, but few have put it through what you have.. Remember what my thoughts were on it?? They didn't come from anything other than actual experience.
How are the temps this time around?? What kind of ambient temps have you seen? How about CHT and oil temps? Was the engine running cooler with the MS system than L jet?
I'd love to tak an excursion with you! Where are you going next?
Thanks man!
I'd just like to respond to the whole MS breaking down thing. It actually didn't break, I just did not get some injector settings right which probably caused them to overheat. I knew these settings were wrong because i found out a few days before we set out, but I did not have the time to tinker with them any more. It was just our own fault since we did not take enough time to tune it right.
The megasquirt did prove to be of help when we had some problems with the L-jet since we used it to troubleshoot the L-jet system. It didn't run on L-jet at that time but it did run on MS and hooking up the computer told us the TS1 and TS2 were ok, but there was a definite AFR problem. Turned out a hose clamp came of and it was sucking in unmeasured air, making the fuel pump stall at low rpm (afm flap closing).
It does run very nicely on MS and one of the main reasons of running MS is that it compensates for altitude differences, which L-jet does not. It is quite annoying if you have change the mixture in your AFM two times a week, which in a roadside case means taking out all the luggage.
Besides that the data logging can be very useful and it overall just runs a little smoother.
The engine itself ran a little cooler this time round, this can partly be attributed to the fact that it was winter in Africa and cruising speeds are lower. Besides that we had it running pretty rich most of the time so we didn't have any problems in the temperature department. We only had one though day in Libya when we crossed a desert (120F) patch with a very strong headwind. We could only do 40 mph slipstreaming behind a large landcruiser.
More pics to come! |

This thread made me smile. They both must have been amazing trips.
What's next? There are still some land masses left to traverse. |

What a trip you had. I was following your trip to the game and then lost it. I just found it quit by accident. |

We are now preparing for a 'small' Euro-trip in 2012 before heading over to the Americas to do New York - Rio in 2014.
