This came up when I chose to rant about how these go for $15-$20 a flap, and I mentioned springs, when I was jumped all over by those who rightly knew that bay windows came with no springs.
I don't remember if these were in my bus which came with a mix of bus and 412 components, or if I found them at the junkyard in an engine.
They fit so well ( I did mess with it a bit as everything was all a mess) that all this time I had no question of whether they should be there. This flap system seems flawed anyway, or it's the dansk heater boxes that they hang open on.
-Which is to say that despite the springs the flaps did still open, and still got stuck that way regardless of them. I have no flaps in currently.
I wonder if they may be stock in a 412 or 914 that would rev higher? |

originally, there is no spring there. it's just an aluminum flap and a pin.

from the factory service manual:
notice how it says "check ease of movement" and not "check spring tension" or something similar?

Yeah, I did check that, and see that there's not a spring in for the bus.
I wonder if it's stock at all -or maybe it is just an owner modification. I don't have a 914 bentley or the 411/412.
You've got my flap collection beat, there.
...nos, nice. They should make these out of stainless, or at least steel, as the aluminum deforms so easily. |

no way those little flaps will work if they have the spring. it's a modification done by someone who doesn't understand how they function. |

x2 - put those springs in and you won't have any heat except when the overhead fan is on. |

I agree, way too heavy a spring for in there, not that it's even needed as gravity does an excellent job already, look like adding machine parts to me. |
