While looking through my stash of parts I found this strange battery cover with 3 cable cutouts and split beetle style fasteners. Someone said it was a barndoor part. Is this correct?

Yes, it is my understanding that is a Barndoor battery cover.
Split Bug too, although Split Bugs usually have the rivets that hold the board shield on, instead of the 2 tabs.
The one I own is supposedly an original from a '54.
