I have a tintop vanagon to be repainted and I plan to do it using rollers (not spray paint). Long ago I came across a topic mentioning a brand to use but can't find it. Could anybody please recommend something easy to use and good quality.

We used Interlux Brightside:

Rustoleum apparently do a marine topside paint as well which is a lot cheaper, I have no idea how good it is, e.g.:

I did a decent job on a tintop with Rustoleum thinned 50%.

do you know how many quarts for the whole 1988 tintop?

Do not remember. But the process has you thin the color 50% with thinner so factor that in.

The Interlux doesn't get thinned nearly as much. IIRC we used a quart of primer and three quarts of topcoat, plus a tin of '333 brushing liquid'. Top-quality 'smooth' rollers and top quality brushes are needed. It's a two-person job, one to apply paint with the roller, the other to lay off with the brush. You have to work quite fast, it gets sticky pretty quickly.

My friend painted a 30 foot sailboat using two part Interlux Perfection Flag Blue using the fine surface "sausage" rollers. About 5" long and an inch plus in diameter. At first he was using the two person roll and tip, but then discovered he didn't even need to tip. He put on 4 coats and I was blown away by the finish. From two inches away lt looked as good as a new Mercedes in the showoom. The two part is much harder and will last longer and be less susceptible to subsequent solvents such as a clear coat or waxes.

It is what I plan to do when the time comes.

It only takes a few quarts of Rustoleum which is pretty cheap.
