Would anybody know where I could source the little rubber caps (witches hats) that go over the trim clips under the hood on early ovals.I have tried Wolfburg West and West Coast Metric with no luck .Any ideas on who may stock them
Thanks

I'd be interested in some witch's hats also. I'm curious as to how many a car takes. Ususally you don't see them on restored cars. I've seen them on the hood, but should they cover the 1/4s too? |

I have 5 used ones that came with some 54 vert parts I bought. I'm guessing that they're just for the hood? Remnants of glue on them. |

I'm pretty certain they are used to seal out moisture on all the side trim moulding also. I remember buying a bunch of NOS ones from Cliff Crate in No. Hollywood, CA about 15 years ago for the future resto of my '57 Kabriolett. I seem to recall that later I heard someone or other came out and repro'ed those witches hats, i thought it was WW...

Yes, the quarters also.
1957 Horizon Blue Oval with 28000 original miles:
The witch's hats for the spaeker block off and ash tray are a different size than those used for the hood and quarter panels. |

They are also used for the interior door panel clips, correct?
EDIT: The molding clips and door panel clips have different sized witch hats. |

Thanks for your replys, sadly the ones CIP sell appear to be the mini witches hats that you poke in to your trim holes first followed by the trim clip :( . So I am still on the hunt for them.

the ones linked from CIP1 are not correct. gee, what a surprise.
i got a bunch of these with the '51 i just bought. about 9 of them are used and are of one style. i also got about 25 of a slightly larger size. i am glad i kept them, because i thought they were being reproduced, but apparently they are not.
here are some measurements from the two different styles i have:
One on left: o.d. of base 25mm; o.d. of base of "hat" part approx 13.5mm; o.d. of tip of hat approx 7.5mm; approx 16mm tall; opening of hole approx 11.3mm.
One on right: o.d. of base approx 26mm; o.d. of base of "hat" part approx 15.5mm; o.d. of tip of hat approx 9mm; approx 16mm tall; opening of hole approx 11.5mm.
so which style is used for which application?
the ones on the left are obviously used, they have remnants of sealant on them. the ones on the right are "new". i have not checked the list of parts i got with the car to see if they are genuine VW NOS or not. regardless, they appear to be rather old.
if someone wants to reproduce either or both styles, i will be happy to loan them for mold making purposes, in exchange for receiving some of the finished product.
