I seen on another web page before the rear vanagon vw eblem that was replaced with a lighted one. Does anyone know where I can buy one?

Can you post a pic or a link of what you're talking about?

It might increase the odds of helping you figure this out...

There was a place in south america that was selling them but the supplied died out a few years ago. It was a replacement for the VW emblem in the rear hatch on late models.

That red one would be super cool.
I've been thinking about doing the front one - buying an LED I could wire into the fog lights. That would seem easy enough but also thinking it might just get too dirty or block airflow to the radiator...

The back one in red as an additional brake light would be very cool. The wiring up and over the hatch seems a little...intensive, but certainly do-able.
Post back if you find a place to get one!

I bought one of these:

.....then used a cheap rippled cutting board for the lens, sanding it down smooth. I grabbed a boaters cupholder for the bucket, and then wired it to one of the front parking lights. Comes on whenever the lights are on.

I seriously doubt that the front emblem led would be legal around my town.

VW made them stop makeing them.

LOL
If those emblems were on a Honda it would be termed "ricer".
I'm not sure what you would call that on a German vehicle????
maybe..."weiner"?

OK.

I started with one of these cup holder inserts from a boat, and trimmed it all the way down to the lip, then glued it to the lens I made out of cheap polycarbonate cutting board. The cutting board was clear and rippled. When I sanded it smooth, it also scuffed it up to diffuse the light. The hardest part was shaping the lens to fit perfectly into the grill opening. Used a lot of card stock to get the template right.

I used a white cup holder so the light would reflect a little bit. The clearance was so close to the fresh air intake that I had to mount the light in the side of the bezel.

There are three wires in the corner light. One ground, and two hot. I spliced into the one that was hot with headlights, (the other one is the turn signal lead.) Like most of my mods, I like to hack up as little as possible. I drilled little tiny holes in the grill surrounding the light, and secured it with a couple sections of wire. I also used waterproof spade connectors so I could easily disconnect it when I remove the grill for 1) maintenance, or 2) someone affiliated with the state/county doesn’t like it.

Silly mod, but I had an extra led and thought it would be fun. I think it cost me less than $10. (OK, maybe $14, because I screwed up the first cup holder)

I believe it's still called that, since my wife told me to make sure I swept up the rice in the garage before I tracked any in the house.

 I like your wife and I admit that's some cool inginuity. Maybe if my Van didn't look so ghetto I would consider doing that mod hehe

Well, the party is over. It was fun while it lasted.

Coming home late last night, I was pulled over because of the blue accent light. Blue is frowned upon in the state of VA, as it is reserved for emergency vehicles.

Ready to accept the ticket, he walked up front and took a look at it. That's when he noticed I was running a euro plate instead of the required front plate.

When he came back from his car he asked about my new exhaust leak.

I received no tickets, but got a long lecture on how even though I won't be as "cool" I would need to remedy these items. About half way into the conversation, I realized that I was receiving the same neon/exhaust/front plate lecture I expected a Fast and Furious teenager would have had after being pulled over in his Integra.

I'm glad my wife held her laughter in while I was speaking to the officer.

Any blue light on a vehicle in any location is illegal in most states. As stated, they are reserved for emergency vehicles only.

Bummer,
then they should ticket everyone of those tools with "blue" hid bulbs in their reflector housings.
