It's probably not a Barndoor if that plate if there since Barndoors don't have that plate.
Post the rest of the numbers - you left some out, like the VIN # in the lower right of the plate.
This page will help you out
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/id.php
To get you started:
From http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/modelstype2.php
233 = Model # = Kombi Cargo doors left, left hand drive |

Hi
Thanks for the start.
so on the plate
top left: 08 12 8
middle: 18 32 43 90 178
bottom left: SD 233 Grund
bottom right: 418012 (this number is also stamped into the chassis in the engine bay)

Grund is the color name in German.
Grund = Gray so it's Light Gray.
Yes, SD = Sweden from the links above. |

Does it have two separate seats? Does it have any interior left in the back? Are the semaphores on the front door posts? How rusty is it? What Clara said, pictures? |

Roof brackets may be for the awning/ tent, like this:
There is a pole that goes onto a front bumper bracket, and another into a hole in the rear bumper. |
