Hello,

i found the following pics in a German Book from 1969. The precious few informations are from the book, i have unfortunately no further info´s about the cars.

Beetle with a Peugeot 202 body ( Could this be a VW 38 / “Part Two” ??? ) :D .......

Great pics, especially the Peugeot looks interesting. What's the title of the book?

This exact pic can also be found on page 19 of Der Kaefer IV by Etzold and is claimed to be a Drews.

In the book die edelkafer from Bernd Wiersch is a chapter included about Drews. The wheel arches look exact te same as in the pict Jorg posted..
For me it looks alot the same as a drews, but if jorg writes that it is not a drews, he probably have more info on it.
It is also mentioned in the book that each model could be changed due to the order of the client.

Maybe an early custom?

Amazing shots... thank you!

But this one (below) is not a VW...

It is a 1959 Porsche Convt. D... standard issue except that it has a really cool clear hardtop... wierd vw style hubcaps with only a single circle... and a Carrera Badge... along with the regular 1600 super badge... kinda confusing.

FYI: I put a link to this thread on the 356registry.com website as these photos of the Convt. D 356 are unknown to most Convt. D owners I think. They may be able to offer more info on this weird clear top... and to whether or not it is a Carrera.

awesome post/pics! that conv d is strange,but in a great way! very cool if it turned out to be a carrera,the others are fantastic,its inspiring to see so many one offs

I wouldn't want that abortion to be traced back to me, either...

I never understood the point of obscuring license plates. The best one was a COPS episode where they obscured some guy's plate, but the cop reads the plate over the radio...

I can definitely see why none of these went into full-scale production :-& , but still can't help but admire the old world craftsmanship. Who can even boast of being able to build an (almost) passable car body entirely from scratch these days? It's practically a lost art.

I went :shock: when first saw that picture, but after searching for pictures of Peugeot 202, it seems obvious the coachbuilder must have used parts of the Peugeot hood and combined those with the beetle hood, note the square corners on this original car.

I don't know. Look at how the (possibly beetle) hood in the top picture extends below the body line (ridge)that runs above the door handles and seems to stop above the semiphore. On the picture of the Peugeot the bottom of the hood line lines up perfectly with that body line. The hood in the top picture extends below that line and the corner looks slightly more squared on the upper picture.

Grant... normally your additions should be outside the quotation when you quote others... so as not to confuse everyone.

in the last post you added..." is that speedster brightwork on the dash" to my quote... I think you may have meant to ask that question outside the quote.

the answer to that question is that a Convt. D is very similar to a speedster... same body and dash. A different height windshield, roll up side windows, and different seats are the difference between a D and a Speedster. Speedsters were made until 1958... Convt. D's came out in late 1958 through 1959... and then the body style was replaced with the roadster.

So the "speedster brightwork" is there... yes... on all Conv't d's

It is a roadster, but may not be a Drauz. :?
(Still looking for a Speedster D badge. :wink: )
