Glenn hit it on the nose. Tail lights are flush mounted in the bumper on each side of the license plate.

California might cite you for those taillights, since they appear to lack reflectors and are not spaced wide enough to represent the car's width. You would probably not get cited, however! (But if someone rear-ends you, lack of original lighting might mitigate the assumption that the following vehicle is liable.) |

Notice the license plate, I’m in Texas, so I’m not worried about California law. The taillights have internal reflectors. These are the same lights used in the front bumpers of Mexican beetles, so they have reflectors. They look dark, but when they’re lighting up, they’re super bright. As far as spacing, it doesn’t matter. As long as I have two brake/tail lights, I’m legal. If someone rear ends me, it’s going to be their fault. Thats Texas law…period. Also, the local law enforcement doesn’t know that these are not stock. I’ve never had any issues with law enforcement, even when they’re cruising behind me. I installed the 68-72 rear fenders. I don’t like the shape of the 73 rear fenders with the elephant tail lights. Just filled in the holes and bam, a much better look. Hope that clears it up. Cheers!!!!! |

Fave pic: my dad in 2007 sitting in Clemmie, his first new car purchased back in November of 1970. This pic is after I got her running after storage and neglect for almost a decade. Made his Father's Day and a lasting memory. He has since passed but is still my copilot whenever I drive her.

Nice! I've always liked the Fasty shape and almost bought one this past summer but I realized that it wouldn't get driven much as we have the 76 Westy. |
