yes-i made my own manifolds and modified type III linkage(early 1970's when i did this) my advice? dont do it pull 36 engine -put on shelf -install a 1600 single port w single quiet power and a 010 distribter.. this will get you double the hp and will run 100,000 miles and get 30-35 mpg.. |

I've got a friend running a EMPI/Speedwell setup with dual Stromberg side drafts on a stock 36hp.
This is not his engine, but it's the same carb setup. |

Putting dual carbs on an engine that small is wasteful and will not gain you much horsepower. They will only be spraying a huge amount of gas into a cam lift that is too small for all that spray to go in. Little to no gain will be seen for such a big pain in the ass. |

going to dig up a really old thread.
Was looking at doing a duel 28 pci set up, have a set of manifolds i found at work (marked LH and RH in the casting), originally wanted to run the two 28 pcis' but thought the linkages to do both choke and acceleration would be messy, so now im thinking a set of 28 picts would be better. anyone know of some photos of a linkages setup for such a plan?
Perhaps a WW orkasa linkage could be adapted?
(btw agree with the comments above, duel carbies with stock camshaft probably wouldn't acheive a great deal) |

Not easily. Look at the carbs which WW sells in their kit- the throttle arms go sideways, so that the linkage needs to accomodate this motion-

On the PCIs and PICTs, the throttle arm rotates front-to-back. You'd need a linkage which can accomodate this motion. GeneBerg's universal carb linkage would. If you paint the main linkage bar in wrinkle-finish black, it could look "old".
Do your manifolds have the carb bolt holes also lined up front-to-back, or are they side-to-side? That would dictate if you could use your PCI or PICTs.
You could use two PICTs, remove the choke plate (fill in the shaft holes with gas tank repair putty epoxy), and saw off the choke mechanism from the carb housing. In a dual-carb VW application you usually don't need a choke. Even WW's carb kit does not have chokes. Add two matched 36hp stock air cleaners and you have a low-buck setup.
Then work on your exhaust choice... |
