Can anybody tell me why this hole is here? It dosent look like it was drilled looks like it was stamped out. Purpose if any, Some goofy Half-assed mod for something by a previous owner?
Im thinking just weld it closed but figured Id ask before I did.
Ive searched in the body, beetle, as well as this forum but with no luck.

| There should be three plastic (what we call fir trees) retainers that poke through the corner part of the weatherstrip and three corresponding holes in the car. Some replacement weatherstrips have "tits" that poke through these holes. It keeps the corner weatherstrip in place. If that is a 4th hole someone added it. |

| Thats what I thought until I put on a new trunk seal to replace the missing one. Its not in line with the 3 holes for the corner. There are a total of 4 holes at the corner. |
