View original topic: Repair Shop in Hemet/ Inland Empire?

I'm looking for a very high quality repair shop that specializes in VW repair in Hemet Ca or the Inland Empire. They have to be top notch and reliable....very reliable. Anyone know one?

BTW, don't say Car Craft.....I'm not impressed with them any more.

EDIT- I found Blodgetts Automotive, and DAPS Repair on The Samba biz section. Any comments about them?

I have been buying some parts for my builf from Blodgetts and they have been very fair priced. The shop does seem to stay busy, and the mechanics have been very helpful with the questions I have had.

There is also a shop in yucaipa, Tony's VW repair. The person who runs it is named Eric, he knows his shit, but is not cheap. It is on Yucaipa BlVD.

i deal with car craft mostly, i have been to blodetts once, no complaints other than don't have a lot of used stuff (building first buggy on a budget) and i would probably never deal with DAPS after seeing how he assembled my buddy's 1915...

I'd like to get my bajas carbs dialed in. It's not running smooth at all. Also my buggy needs a new carb set up, which means jetting....and I'm not a carb guy. And for repairs that may come up in the future I'd like a shop that really knows their stuff.

Thanks for the replies.

Call Eric at Tony's Auto Repair in Yucaipa. Been in business since the fifties. Best in the area in my book.

No problem. As mgobaja stated, Eric isn't cheap, but since he's always busy-as-can-be, ya gotta know there's a reason. Might be a good idea to call ahead and make an appointment.

Phil's Auto Clinic

Hemet, CA 92544-5117

Phil Fournier is a top notch guy and very honest, I've known him for years and can vouch for him. He's also a national automotive instructor and won a Napa award for technician of the year. He's fluent in Spanish, too, if that helps. Tell him I sent you.

Good Luck!

Yellowbeard- Thanks again.

Yesterday I drove my buggy around and visited some shops. Eric impressed me the most, so I have an appointment on Thurs to get the carb re jetted. I was impressed that Eric spent quite a bit of time looking at my buggy and found a couple things wrong right away. As for cost...no problem. I'll pay for high quality work. I'll report back after the work on the buggy is done. After that my baja needs the trans rebuilt, and various other things....So hopefully I found the "go to" guy.

Thanks Bruce. Actually Phils has done lots of work for me. I didn't consider them for VW carb jetting because I assumed it wasn't their specialty. But for general auto work I take our Toyotas there.

Ya, Phil knows his stuff. His brother showed me a disassembled Prius they were working on, so I got to see the battery packs pulled apart, and the electronics...pretty cool. They rebuilt my 4Runners rear axle, and did a bunch of other stuff for me, and I never had a problem with their work. And yes, they're expensive but worth it. Thanks a lot for the info.

BTW- I assume you used to live in Hemet?

Nope, I've never even been to Hemet. I've know Phil for a long time because we've attended the same training conferences together and he's been a student of mine. Phil's top notch- one of the best in the country, I'd trust him with anything. We've also discussed him teaching for me in Spanish. (I run an automotive/diesel training company, Turbo Training.)

Good Luck!

Bruce- Gotta give you a plug here-

http://www.turbotraining.com/bruce.htm

In 2007, he was named Educator of the Year by the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT)

Outstanding....Looks like you put a lot of effort into your classes. Writing the course materials, etc.

Next time I'm at Phils, I'll mention your name. Thanks for the replies.
