I bought the original negative for this photo some time ago. I was hoping that it was a color image. This type of license plate only existed between 1945 and 1956.
R = British Occupation Zone Rhineland
52 = District of Detmold, District of Bielefeld
8696 = serial number

Hello Udo,
plates: the "new ones" came May 01, 1956, but the black "old ones", had to be changend till June, 30, 1958. OK, you can say, car was registered in germany before first of May 1956. Probably you mean this. (So Pidoll-Book 1994)
So we can think, pic is in winter 1955, 56 or 57.
Still no outside mirror!
And was the pic in color?

Early Lowlight Coupe or Cabrio
Sunset Boulevard, Pacific Palisades, LA
1950s

Looks like a BMW Isetta way back there; though unlikely in the posh Palisades even in the '50's.

I wonder how bad the Village looks now from this perspective after the terrible fire in January... Looking northwest "up" Sunset, with the traffic light in distance probably on Swarthmore cross-street.

Here it is colourised
Easier on the eye
