I am wondering what these fit. I don't recall if I have asked before.
There are VW emblems stamped on them in white.

thanks,
Mike

I never saw them for old Volkswagen. The vw sign (in white?) is it maybe handmade? Do you have a photo of the stamps? The shocks looks for old Opel or Ford.

Hi,

I have an identical pair of dampners and plates, they were attached to my (Danish) 53' Panel Van and I had not seen any others until now.... (I don't have a photo of them at the moment though) ......

were they fitted to a bus ?

I have a pair that were fitted to my 55 also with vw stamps. They are Armstrong shocks... they are also pictured in the parts list.

Chris can i copy the adaptor plates? As i want to fit mine back to the bus,but they didnt have the correct plates.

Hi Simon,

yes, no worries, it'll take me a week or so to grab them as bogged down this week packing customers panels orders / dealing with collections etc ...

I'm not sure of their application but I think they might be the optional "heavy duty" shocks.

I have seen them listed in a VW parts book somewhere.

The shock links of this pair are not stock. Originally they used 2 flat steel pieces and a bolt going through rubber bushings.
The shock links in your pic look an awful lot like 1932-1948 Ford FlatheadV8 era 'dogbone' style links, using ball rubber bushings in the link ends and a cone with threads to mount it in the lever cone and axle parts...
just FYI.

They are Armstrong parts. They were not fitted to a bus. I thought
they might possibly be early post war British fitted parts I could use.

I thought I might have asked before since the pic was on here, but the
search on here seems pretty flakey sometimes. It often seems to miss
posts I know I have made.

I had a look at the old thread and it was Heikki/HeSa who posted the
other pic there.

The S links and dog bones on this set move the end a lot.

Thanks for the help and information
Mike

Adding some info here from another thread in Split Beetle:
Quote: Armstrong shocks were never installed to any VW at the assembly line, they were mid-60s replacements to early Transporters (up to mars-55).
Information is from huolto-ohje (service bulletin) H-37, heinäkuu (juli) 1964.
