Bought an aftermarket Tach to install and I have a couple of questions I have seen the diagrams on where to go with + and - but on mine it has a third. Says WS1 as well as 8 dip switches. Any help?
It says "Siemens VDO Trading AG Switzerland"
and has part # 1 211 015 942 C

Not sure. However, here is a link to a VDO tachometer installation manual: It also has the dip switches. Maybe this will help. VDO used to have a very user-friendly website for installation manuals, but it looks like it's a little more awkward now.

But mine has 8 dip switches not just the 3 like in the diagram. Further investigation is needed.

Of course I can't find the post now, but I remember reading a post where someone had an odd vdo tach so they called vdo and vdo sent them the instructions on hooking it up. I was pretty surprised they would do that, very cool.

hook all the wires up

start the car and start flipping switches

Where did you get the Tach
and whats it supposed to go to

Or is it Just Aftermarket

I got the tach off Fleabay for cheap. Might not work on my car but I like troubleshooting.

I have a similar 6000 RPM tacho but it doesn't have the dip switches ( has a 4,6,8 cylinder switch instead) and I haven't tried connecting it yet.

I think this is the correct wiring diagram for your tacho.

The S/W/1 connection is for the "tachometer signal" from the engine, which I think is the same as the coil lead signal ( ie. +1 ) used on older VDO tachometers.
Good luck, let me know if it works.

Great, that's exactly what I was looking for. I will try it this weekend.
