looks like the only brown wire goes to the fuel gauge sending unit ? does yours work properly?

www.vintagebus.com has a nice collection of wiring diagrams, look though some of the alternate year or market ones to see what it could be. |

its a super not a bus. but thanks. and looking through the other wiring diagrams i found that the 72 type 4/411 has a brw/blue wire that goes to 31 which is ground. so should i ground it? i couldnt find 2 though. i only saw the one brw/blue wire. |

Does your wire have the color stripe like the brown and blue one in the photograph below?

I thought the same when I was first shown the site, but believe me, there are bug diagrams on there too!
I've just looked and found several for 1971, '72 and '73 Beetles and supers - perhaps your car has a loom for a test socket from '71? Or a supplement that is not on the standard diagram? |

i was replying to the other guy sorry haha. but vintage bus is where i found the type 4 schematic with the wire from the steering column. i looked at all the late model bug schematics with no success. so i looked at the ghia, type 3, and type 4 ones. and found that. i cant link the schematic so if you go to vintagebus and go under 72 type 4 youll find what im talking about :D |

I believe it is the idiot buzzer wire. Since they are so annoying most have had the buzzer (squeaker) removed. |

If you intend to install a radio in that car, the blue and brown wire (from the ignition switch) is your friend! It can be used to ground a relay to operate your radio as long as the key is in the ignition (on or off) like this:
The gray/black goes to the driver's door swith.
I use the diode because my "key in" buzzer is still connected and working. If you don't want the buzzer, you don't need the diode. |
