Ok... how can i explain myself in Shakespeare beautiful language...
No way i can.
This poor van, yes. poor bast.....
What you are seeing right now is plain ugly. The whole left side of that van is..... a Chevy van skin/metal sheet! yeap, graft to that poor vanagon.
All the picture here:
http://www.benplace.com/trajan.htm
Please comment, i have no words left.
How is that possible? Yes it's a Chevy van, well part of it. LOOK CAREFULLY at each single picture.
It was bastardized (can i say that, please tell me yes!).
What a project, what did i do to end up with such a van... (me crying)
And you guys think you have seen rust... you all make me laugh.

Yes, I think bastardized is a good word in this case.
Cool, a van within a van. I am thinking they might not fix that in California. |

Yikes Ben, in Europe they wouldn't even send something that rusty to India to get melted down for scooters :) . I don't know how you even approach a job like that! (not to mention the parisite van hiding in the quarter)
Something in me thinks it'd be easier to find some not-so-rusty non-runners to fix up. I should talk though, I went to Minnesota to get mine! I couldn't afford a western one. |

| Thats strange. I've never seen somebody just put sheet metal over other sheet metal. Seems like you'd have to be either extremely dumb or etremely lazy, or both. |

bastardized is perfect. I think it came from the French anyway, like most of our language! 1066 and all that.
Looks like when some guy goes to the doctor complaining of a pain in the gut and they find his twin with the MRI. |

Wow, I looked at that auction, and wondered why anyone would bid $4000 for that thing.
Then I saw the 4WD and Syncro decals, and said ah-hah!!!! |

Surprisingly, the other side is not bad, rear and front not to bad also.
The first thing i told that customer a few month ago is to.... get a southern van and scrap this one, a month late he came back telling me: No, i want to save it! I said i'm NOT doing this one. He came back again with some offer $$$$, he then drove from Toronto (400 miles) to my shop. I started the van and i said i want more $$$$.
Reason i took the job:
-not much job a month ago, now, i have too many :-)
-My cousin work with me 25 hours a week, he love crazy body work project, so i'm not working alone!
-California solid part van outside with a perfect left side
-New clean way to remove all the old putty, in some spot, this van as 1/2 in of putty.
What you see so far is not the worse, the left rear quarter is... well, i don't know yet, let say completely not a vanagon.
Yesterday night we have applied a powerful paint/putty remover, i mean a STRONG one, so strong that we can't stay in the shop wile it's doing it's job. I will see later today what's under.
Bah, this one was really bad also:

Ben,
You know what is funny - I have a rust free chassis in AZ with a clean title that I have been trying to sell for months at $225 - Nobody wants it so now I have to scrap it.
Good luck with that mess. |
