Hey guys. I'm trying to find out what years this early Canadian emblem was used. Any idea's? I saw it on a barn door awhile back.

My 55 Barndoor had one on it. I'll post pics later today.

My 53 BD had one on it so I'm guessing as early as then.

It would be shortly after VW Canada got set up in late '52(?). And in talking with a VW Canada rep way back when, it was for brand recognition because people had no clue what these vehicles were. Dealers used up their stock of these emblems into the late '50s and very early '60s.

The VW Club of Canada in the '80s (last century) had another run of of 100 or so made by the company with the original mold. When the place burned this mold was destoyed....

Forgot one other mention of VW branding specific to Canadian Kombi Barndoors goes beyond the emblem...they also had "Volkswagen" stenciled in white lettering below the back window on the '53-54 model years.

Whether it was done by VW Canada prior to delivery to dealer or by dealer is unknown.

It was also done on post barndoor buses at least 'til the late 50's early 60's.

Maybe like the emblem, must have been dealer applied then on an occasional basis going into the early '60s. Don't recall seeing any post barndoors or early '60s examples in my travels....but that's just my "sample experience" and nothing more.
