I'll just start by saying that I don't have a sterile working room and no where near the cleanlyness of Tominator's Blue ride over at the Manx Club but I think I'll end up with something I'll be happy with.

The new plate will be a little longer and I'll be able to tie it to the dash support quite nicely.

I'm going to have to machine it where it bolts to the dash brace to tilt it down about 2° or 3°.

I used the fuzzy part of stick on velcro to pad the plate to ensure it does not rub.

Still need to cut the steering shaft hole and cut a slot for the wiper moter brace.

Yes, I was hoping to have made one on the plexiglass shelf but never got around to it, not to mention that the plexiglass was not stiff enough.

That el work,,I liked the way Tominator mounted his speakers on the shelf with the tweeters on the dash,,cant wait to see the finished product ,,

I would mount the shelf with nylon bolts so it will breakaway in case of an accident. It looks quite substantial.

What's the benefit of having a shelf there anyway? Seems like it would get in the way if you need to do any type of service under there... Unless of course you would want to pull the entire hood off to work under there anyway.

I do think they both look good (yours & Tominators), I just don't get it.

Unfortunatly no... Last week-end we decided to clean the appartment and this weekend is my B-Day and I'll be buzy entertaining the family.

He is going to use the shelf to place all his wiring on it.

Relay, connectors, junction boxes, etc etc.

How is the shelf going to accessed in the event of electrical failure/fire/etc?

Will the whole hood and windshield need to be removed? What about the gauge connections? Will you need a couple of buddies to hold the front in the air while you reach under
and try to pull the connectors and unfasten the speedo cable and such?

That shelf looks great in the "build" photos, but really seems to be more of a hindrance than a help should anything need replacing/repairing/etc.
and with a home made ride, something ALWAYS does . . .

That's what I'm getting at... I don't understand the "need" for a shelf there... I'm totally new to these things, so, that's why I'm asking...

Well I got to tell you that it's been pretty reliable (knock on wood) in the past year with the amount of driving we did, it sure held up.

This being said, it was a little tricky to get at the fuse box with the old plexiglass shelf but I plan on having a tilt down setup on that fuse box to get accesss to it.

As far as accessing the gauges, the Berrien buggy hood has a space between the dash and dash support brace that is wide enough for my had to pass and get access to it.

I'm planning on using the hole of the drop down fuse box to access the gas filler hose clamp.

Other plans for that shelf include an AC/DC converter and a small 'glove' box that will tilt down on the passenger side for maps and small items.

I understand that it may look like I'm making things overly complicated but it keeps everything neat and I'm that kind of guy...

I'm even looking at adding one of these and mod it to add a 12v plug in place of the RJ45 conn. The idea is it would pop down from under the dash.

So this is a side view I take it,,It's a try that swings down? How do you plan to make it stay up,,May be a strong magnet on all 4 corners and 4 small round steel plates on the under dash..That wold hold it.

Still far from finish... I always seem to get interupted but I managed to get some progress on the desing.

Here's what I'm after:

Learning AutoCAD 2010 is taking much longer than anticipated. I still have a some challenges but starting to get the hang of this tool.
