View original topic: Carb Resturn Spring verification 311 129 769 A

So just got two of these for my dual carbs. And they look nothing like what was there originally. These are much smaller and shorter. Did the PO/OO replace with what they had, or were the original 311 129 769 springs bigger and longer.
These fit, but have a much higher tension level than the ones which were on previously.
Just wondering

Not sure where you obtain those...here is what I did on my type 3 carb return springs. I looked at several photos of the spring and final determined that they are the same as type 1 carb. So I just added stiff wire with a loop to hook to and hold it in place.

Mine look a lot like those, but are OE.

Buy these and you'll never have to worry again.I put the on my 68 t34 and my car ran so much better. Great investment

Thanks for the responses. What is interesting is these are NOS I got from a VW supplier.
The 311-129-769A part number for these match what is in "Type_3_Parts_Book_Group_1_Engine" in the carb linkage sub section. The bar codes (QR and Standard) are correct and match the part number.
Further research shows this part number was used for Gen 1 Jetta and Rabbit air filter spring. The plastic bag does show 1962 / 75. VW may have modified the spring to be fitment for both Typ 3 and Gen 1 Rabbit/Jettas.
No offense to BerT3's springs, but these did cost less and were local to the US/Kansas area.
The pressure feedback on the foot pedal is higher, but not terrible. So, I have installed and will report back.

My type 1 modified return springs work fine also. They close the carbs when foot is lifted off the pedal. The cost of mine was free as I had them in the box of stuff that we all keep for what ever reason. A short peice of stiff wire free also and precision cut and formed, ha ha ha.

They tell you they are nos. They work, they get the job done but are not 45 year old German spec. Just ones to fill in and are new repop. Tension is the most important on these. Those springs are out there and easily found - just not in he right tension.
