I'm uprgrading my 67 beetle from 6 to 12volts. (european car)
but I'm stuck with a headlight relay thats don't work. The original is a 6 pin relay, and I've got 4 old relays to test out. part number is 411941583B, same as DNI 0127.

I've conected as follows:

30 - current from fusebox
S - tiny brown/white from flasherstick at the wheel
56a- highbeam
56b- lowbeam
56 - from lightswitch at dash

tried all 4 relays, but the flasher will not work. I'm either stuck on low oe high beam... :?:

the last old connection is a tiny red which is together with 30...

could somebody please help out ???

May be the wrong relay.

Keep in mind Euro relays are either different, or wired differently than USA cars. Euros had terminal 30 always hot so you could flash the high beams with the headlights off, as when passing (or in place of a horn if an idiot cuts in front of you!). USA models didn't connect 30 to a hot lead, they jumpered it to 56. This let the relay switch from high to low beam as it should, but you could NOT flash the high beams when the headlights are switched off.

Replacing the 30-56 jumper and instead wiring 30 to "always hot" terminal restores this function. I did this on my '71 USA Type 3 to get a flasher function. Use a wire thick enough to take headlight main current. Also, it is typically not fused, so wire it up carefully to avoid shorts.

Also, check that the wires from your turn signal button are connected correctly. The solid brown must be grounded.

For testing the relay, you can bypass this and just ground terminal S at the relay. That's all the button does-- it temporarily grounds the brown/white wire as long as you hold down the button.
