Can you fit a 4 x 100 bolt pattern to a bug rotor or is there not enough room to clear the center nut?

yes you can
AND you can either redrill the brakes or use adapters

and this isnt a bad price for a set of 4
and depending on the offset of the wheels you want these might work alot better than redrilling
AND its about the same price

just take the offset of the wheels you want and subtract the mm of the adapters to find the final offset

Thanks- been looking for a different look than the usual BRMs, 8 spokes etc. Found a bunch of good looking wheels for the import market, (Honda, Toyota) but they all seem to share the 4x100 bolt pattern. Off set will be the key, but there a a bunch of 15" and 16" wheels out there that would look real nice on a bug.

i would re-stud your brakes.
far safer than adapters and 4x100 is all the small front wheel drive cars so theyre all around 40et rims

adapters over 1" thick like those above are gonna push the rims out past stock fenders

even on 15x6 rims which are all usually around et38

I'm going to go with a ghia disc set up, so will be drilling rotors. What width are you running? Any experience with 6 or 6.5?

ive run 17x7 and 18x7.5 et40

ive got some 15x6 et38 rims but ive never actually run them on the bug but im sure they would fit fine

its a 3 bolt super though, the original 2 bolt front end needed heaps more offset

I know supers are different, (I've got a 71 standard), but from what I've been reading, 17 and 18 means tire rubbing? What was your experience with those huge rims? I started this whole thing after seeing Porsche Cup 2's and falling in love, but heard all sorts of talk about reduced turning radius and harsh ride with short sidewalls. Then I found "Carat 2's", 15 x 6.5, 5 x 112, ET 30 (see previous post in here), but am worried about the 6.5 width. Most all of our driving is done on the highway, so a decent ride quality is as important as looks. And we don't have a ton of cash, so we need to get the combo right the first time. I'd love to get your opinions on ride quality over the different combos you've tried. Feels like I'm walking in circles trying to figure this out- any advice would be appreciated.

15x6.5 with either 195 or 205 tyres should work nicely with a stock front end and stay under stock fenders with a 30mm offset

i havent done much playing with wide rims on a standard
i did try my 17x7 on my 70 with a stock beam and factory discs and they sat flush with the gaurds but rubbed on full lock

Topline in anaheim CA can redrill your drums/rotors to 4 x 100 bolt pattern

When you say more offset do you mean the kind that makes the "bolt circle plane" if you will, go in more (therefore pushing the rest out)? Because I always thought they said 2 bolts went lower?

What model bug do you have? those sizes should be fine with 3 bolt supers, and balljoint. could say with late 2bolt front

yep, although I think you guys refer to it as back spacing
Because the 2 bolt front end is slightly wider it pushed the wheel out further
so you need one with more positive offset to bring them back in under

zero offset is when the mounting hub is in the centerline of the wheel

postive is when the hub is moved outwards which in turn brings the wheel inwards

I got the 2 bolt struts super. I guess it will work. your rim is 1.5 in. wider that what I am planning. do you have a good clearance on you tire and the strut springs? I am worried about the tire rubbing. I was planning to covert it to a 3 bolt one. coz it's much easier to change ball joint than the 2 bolt one. saw one in the junkyard.

What's your lug pattern BTW? Do you have disk or drum? Did you have problems with the front hub with your rim center bore?

when dealing with 7" rims on a 2bolt you need around 55mm offset so the 5.5s at et35 should be fine
I have got some 6" et38 but havent ever tried them on it

My bug is factory disc brake and I'm running 4x100 with topline maxx struts.
I have early discs which dont have the hubcentric ring so center bore has not been a problem, Ive had 7 different sets of aftermarket rims on it and all have fitted.
Although the rear center caps often dont clear the vw axle nuts

Its cheaper to buy some 2nd hand 17" rims with good tyres than 4 new tyres where I live
The rims in the pic above cost me $400au off ebay with 4 good tyres, 4 new tyres alone would have been $600+

I only changed mine to 3 bolt originally cos i couldnt get a 2 bolt spindle anywhere, they were only made for 2 years in aus but the narrower track helped with rim fitment so i left it 3 bolt

If you're talking press in studs like this:

there is but you have to spot face the area first as the ribs are not flat there for them to pull down on

Drilling and pressing or using adapters is a couple methods but I think for piece of mind, I'd just buy custom drums and rotors. CIP1 sells them and you can get them in a lot of different bolt patterns. Check it out:
