| What is the purpose of the heater tube section under the back seat that has the insulation in it and is spot welded to the heater channel tube that comes out of heater channel? Thanks Sam |

it's a sound deadener - it can be quite noisy if you don't have any kind of sound baffles between the engine and the heater outlets up front. VW went to straight pipes later on under there but with insulated/baffled tubes between the engine and body.
