I have a 67 fastback and Ive been working on getting my wiring straightened out. Im using the following wiring diagram but have run into a couple of problems.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/type3_1600_67.jpg
The problem is that the brake wire that should go on fuse 8 on my car has a small black wire attached to it. The wiring diagram doesn't show this wire. Where does it go? Am I using the right diagram?
I also am having a hard time finding where these two brown wires hook up. They seem to be coming from the area with the dome light wire.
Sorry the focus sucks in the pics. |

Most brown wires are connected to ground.
Follow the wires to see what they are really connected to. |

Ok I think the brown wires are the door buzzers...but where do they hook into on the fusebox? What about the brake wire (the red and black wire). Where does that extra black wire hook into. Its fairly short and has a connector on the end like it may hook into a relay or switch of sorts. The pic is kind of deceiving in that it looks like the black wire goes back in to the main harness but it doesn't. It has a connector on one end and the other end connects to the red and black at the connector shown in the pic. Does anybody else have a black wire attached to the brake wire like that? |

The brown wires probably hook up to the door switch to ground your interior light when you open the door. I'm not sure about the brake wires. |

Sorry I meant the open door interior light switch. My question is if the brown wires attach at the door on one end, where do the hook into on the other end? I traced the brown wires back and they go up the pillar of the door frame by the dash. They follow around the door frame but disappear somewhere on top between the interior light and the where the pillar of the door frame meets the top. |

the ones from the interior light are the ones that are coming down the a pillar.
the wires you are holding go under the dash to a male ground quick on.
or to the back of the instruments.
# 31 is the ground wires on the diagram look at all the ground connections on the diagram and trace them under the dash until you find the one that is unplugged. |

some cars have a dual brake circuit warning light. not sure if youd have one, but on my wiring diagram the brake wire goes to a fuse with the wire for the switch for this. its k7 on mine. |

chasis #: 317107013 This is a Nov. 1966 number right?
My title has this number as the VIN but it says its a 67. I still need to verify that the number on the title matches the chasis # on the car but if it is a 66 I've been using the wrong diagram this whole time thinking the car was a 67. FML!! |

Yeah I checked the chasis number and it is: 317107013. Is that for sure a Nov. 66 car? |

Nov '66 will be the '67 model year. (Sept - Aug)
I don't see door buzzers in any T3 wiring diagram until '68. |

Sorry I meant dome light switches on the door frames not buzzers. |

Ok so from the second usa version of a 67 type 3 you should have a emergency flasher switch. thats what the black wire is going to. It could also be to the dual brake circuit warning lamp.

its not a color diagram but is more in depth than the 1st diagram.
brown wires are grounds in VW's. That double ground should be close to a relay, switch, or maybe even a gauge. |

Looking at the tail lamps, and may other artifacts, that is a 1970-later diagram, not '67. |
