Has anyone mated up a 50* VW inline gas engine to this Subaru transmission kit, tranny and kept engine under the stock engine lid? eg use a counter flow 8v head, not lower transmission any further than the Suby transmission kit allows?

I'm on slow wifi with my smart device; searching this thread is a slow go!

Packaging wise, this transmission has one limitation. It can't be mounted any lower than what I have done. I have kept the standard Subaru engine mounting height as defined by the engine mounted to the VW transmission. This works well, and even though the transmission sits a little lower, there is no clearance loss since parts of both the Subaru engine and Wasserboxer engine sit lower. But going lower with this transmission is a no go due to the positioning of the differential. Right now, with Carat springs my van has the half-shafts just about exactly parallel to the ground. If the trans were to go lower, the half-shafts would be angled up to the wheel center line.

So for Stephan's excellent 1.8T conversion (which lowers the engine 2" in 2wd vans) this trans would be a no go unless you were to raise his engine conversion back up 2". Not impossible, but something to keep in mind while dreaming up all the new possible combinations.
