Recently purchased a 66 deluxe with stripped interior. Even the front seat brackets were gone. Always wanted to do my own touches on the interior so it is the perfect starting point. Thought a thread about custom interiors would be cool to share ideas. Post a lot of pics. Hope there is interest :idea: :idea:

I am considering putting bamboo carpeting throughout the interior. It cuts really easily with a jigsaw.

Molds nicely to odd shapes. This is just a prototype for the front panel (obviously not screwed in) Trying to figure out how to do the headliner as well...

Where did you get the bamboo from? Does it come in different shades, sizes, thickneses? What's the backing? Cost?

Looks cool...but, how does the bamboo react to vibration (like from a car stereo or the rattling of a vintage bus)? Let us know if it buzzes.

I got a small rug (3x5) as a closeout locally. I googled the tag and a company called CSN rugs had it in stock(Boston). They were running a blowout special with free shipping so I ordered an 8'x10' ...delivered for $115. Dn't know if you will find that deal again. The manufacturer is Majestic Rugs. The style is the Jade collection. The color is Natural. There are several different shades available. There are several sizes as well. I am planning on doing the headliner, cargo wall panels, Walk through backs and fronts... etc, so I got the 8 x 10. The bamboo itself is 1/4 inch wide by a little less than 1/8 inch thick. The backing is what I would describe as a thick felt with tiny rubber dimples (non-skid) What is really cool is you can take the backing off if need be and the bamboo stays together via a glued cloth mesh. It folds backwards just enough to handle the angle of the roof.
As far as vibration goes, My bus is minus beam and drive train right now getting a full resto so I haven't driven it yet.

Picked these up at a boat salvage yard. They are going to be mounted where the seatbelt bracket was by the doors. Welded a piece of 1/8" plate where the crusty old one was. Solid brass, screws apart. The guy said they came off of an old schooner that had run aground and sunk. They are a nice touch for my nautical themed interior... so says I.

Are you sure you want to trust your face to a couple of machine screws? I know the bolt eye is sturdy and the mount will be screwed into the massive plate you've installed but it won't be enough if you ever have to test it. You really need to mount it so the threaded mount is under not on top. And I know it won't look as cool with the brass part out of sight but think about it.

X... The eyelet itself, along with the thick thread tube will still look pretty cool by themselves if you put the mount down in the wheel well. Otherwise, well...what they said ^^.

All very good points, and I do appreciate your concern for my safety. The entire assembly is larger than it looks in the pictures. The holes are actually 3/8". Maybe I'll hog them out a little to get something larger in. Plus a drop of superglue... and some gum. That or I will just drive really safely...

I should probably add that the stock seatbelt bracket was dangling by a crusty piece of metal about 3/4 inch long. The c-rust had gotten about half way down the back of the walk-thru section/wheel well. Which is another issue all together. Thanks for the helmet idea, I will wear one while I'm driving... although we don't have helmet laws in Florida. Isn't a Bus seatbelt more form than function anyways? What about my knees?

FWIW, I once caved in the trunk of a ricer into its back seat and the most damage to the bus was a small dent created by the towel bar on the lower nose. Stock height. 8)

Not planning on a total slam, just an inch or two here and there... and there. Not enough for the purists to hit the fetal position, just enough to make them throw up in their mouth alittle.
