First you'll need to disassemble the door handle.
Then, you'll need to remove a tiny jewelers screw that holds the key lock into the handle
Once that screw is removed, the key lock portion will easily slide out of the handle body
The Brass wafers (tumblers) can then be easily pushed out & replaced |

You double-posted this so I pasted in your text below with my answer:
Quote: I don't see a thread for how to take the '56 ~ '59 door handles apart, I need to replace the spring and re key it to match my original SG ignition .
Any links would be highly appreciated, I've been searching 'door key', 're key', door handle key', on and on.....
Once you've done it a few times re keying isn't difficult, it's just one more fiddly detail oriented job best done over a white or light colored towel as small parts tend to fall, bounce or PING off into God alone knows what other universe .
TIA, I'm sure someone has done this before .
Bus handle spring replacement thread below, I think they are the same?

The cross-pin? It comes right out with a little punch (preferred) or a screwdriver.
I've had some that only come out 1-way so if it doesn't start moving, try the other side. :) |

Does anyone know where to get the tumbler plates to build a lock?
For SG keys, the wafer #1 #3 #5 seem to have been used.
Cannot find ANYONE who is selling a set of tumbler plates or who can pinpoint if any of these plates are re-used in other sets, so we could purchase them from elsewhere and put together the correct settings.
The only shop I've come across who offered the correct ist this one:
https://heritagestocks.com/product/111837218-set-of-tumblers-lock-cylinder/
The set is out of stock and I doubt there are any NOS sets left worldwide. But nowadays surely someone has repopped them ... ?? |

There's a guy in Southern California who has plates, I don't know if he sells them, he re keyed my old SG cylinders to match the whole car and used new plates and springs . |

Get wafers from other handles and locks at your local swap meets. Look for the worst handles that are too far gone to be restored.
There are two diameters of wafers, 12 and 13mm. The 12mm wafers were used through the 50s and 60s, so any 60s handle will give you wafers you can use. Passenger side door handles will have the least wear. |
