So......i need to get people's thoughts on this. I've not driven my baja bug since like last may. Right now I'm driving my sisters '66 beetle and can continue to drive it (she got a NB) complete w/ hello kitty seat covers. The baja wouldn't be a high miles car, just driving around town, vw club stuff, etc.
It could be running very soon, this weekend most likely.
OR
I could remove the baja kit on it and try to sell that this week end at volksfest, along w/ a couple other things (freeway flier tranny, pan, maybe some other little things). because....I have the opportunity to get a 1 piece front end, rear fenders that i like better, and a 6 pt roll cage all for $200 from Randy (he got a great deal on a baja he's parting out).
The thing is, I have $165 now, and will need to pay Randy $250 for the engine in there. I'm trying to sell the tranny and pan w/ title for $250 each, so if i could sell both of those, i wouldn't need to bother trying to sell the baja kit now.
so what do i do? do i get it going again and drive it as is, or upgrade stuff and take a bit longer on my project?
Ask STOICH. He would have some sage advice on this subject.
   KEEP IT SIMPLE....
only thing more fun than building a car, is getting to drive it every once in a while  |

looks like I'm just getting the 6pt. cage for now. I'll need to paint it (It's currently pink) and we'll throw it in. We'll probley add on to it sometime. just like door bars + tying into suspension.
may bee able to get a few other parts, depending on what i sell, and what randy has left. probley won't be doing the 1 piece front end, even if it doesn't sell this week end. |

ugh....still not running yet. I've been extremely busy since starting college...(running start). One of the heads needs replaced.....we should be getting one very soon. It's very close to running though! got my roll cage painted white, that'll be going in soon before too long. i just need time and $....but then don't we all? 8) |

I follow a similar philosophy... when out of money... paint! |

cage won't be installing just yet, still waiting till i get $ to do the interior. got the new head in, should be running this week [-o< [-o< [-o<
i still need to hook up the front turn signals, i think my dad is going to do that for me :) we're very close. we might have had it all back together today, but alas it was raining.
btw, I'll be buying a gas heater from a 412. hope it works better than the heater boxes did! |

quick update: nothing done
actually that's not true, we've been working on a few little wiring issues, still haven't started it yet!
not much else to say.....still planning/plotting/dreaming of what I'm going to do. I just orded a roller fairlead. I plan on mounting my winch about like Bajaherbie mounted his. With the narrow eye kit though i'm thinking I'll have to cut off the bottom of the front piece to make it shorter. i plan on putting the roller in the skidplate for the cable to go through. |

alright, well we replaced the points & condenser and the car started! it sounded horrible but it started! Now we'll start doing some stuff, like setting the timing. hopefully the engine is good. if not we'll throw randy's 1776 w/ dual 40 kads into the baja for a little while, and start an engine rebuild. After that, I'll get an alinment, and i'll be driving it again! :D |

quick update: randy's 1776 will be going in for a little while. we should have it running by next weekend! then sometime when schools back in i'll take it to get an alignment. I have a friend who is in the automotive program at a local technical highschool thing, and so i can an alignment for free :D |

i took a few pictures just for fun.
i have adjusters but the front looks really low, i definately need some lift spindles.
part of my roll cage. yes, it used to be pink (before i bought it)
my new turn signals (not yet installed)
i began building some turning brakes, using handles from some end nippers from hardbor freight. yes they look like junk now, but they're not done yet.
and the daily driver for now
Randy's '62 ragtop

alright we're putting in the 1776, might be driving it this week end! the engine i was gonna buy from randy needs new pistons. i'll either build that to 1641 or 1680 (machine in 88s) |

Car looks good! you may want to consider trimming the front fenders if you want to see the lift. You should be able to get more lift out of the adjusters than it looks like right now, is it possible the big fenders are just hiding it?

i have the adjusters turned pretty high. I believe it's squatting because the rear is lifted higher than the front. I'll be building a set of lift spindles sometime, and those should make a huge difference.
don't think i mentioned it, but I got a beat up home-built POS sandrail a few weeks ago. I cut it all up. It had ghia disc brakes on the front, so I'll be able to use those. It'll be a while before i get those on though. I'll need to order some calipers, and I'm going to use the disc brake spindles for my lift spindles.
things have been going super slow, but I'm getting really close to driving my baja again! 8) |

I've been driving the bug a little, I got an alignment. It's super loud right now (stinger+very little interior). There's still some things I need to do, like hook up the speedo cable and horn. I also got some H4 headlights that I'll be putting in. no bumpers for now, but I got some beam clamps, and I'll probley start on the front bumper soon. I really need to get working on my lift spindles...I've also made my roll cage mounting plates, and began to test-fit my cage last night. looks like I'll pretty much have to pull the interior completely when I put it in.
Like I said I'm running my friend's 1776 right now, but we'll be putting together an engine for me soon. We have the 87mm pistons right now, which would make it a 1641, but I'm thinking of ordering a 74mm crank, to build a 1760. Any thoughts on that?
oh, and has anyone used these?

I'm thinking of getting a set or two. I know they aren't ideal, but my car is 99% daily driver anyway... |

So my friends 1776 was running like crap, it needs a rebuild too. So anyway I've been working some and trying to get money for engine parts. I'm building an 1807, 76 crank and 87 pistons. |

Cool build! I'm interested to see how you're mounting those LED turn signals, wanting to do the same on my bug-eye. |
