ok I am switching over to new fenders that will be made out of 16 guage mild steel. i will be cutting out my wheel wells to clear my wheel travel. but i am contemplating welding them on. i like bolting them on except that was more desireable with fiberglass fenders because fiberglass explodes when a tire hits it. with steel i just hammer and grind it back to how i want it. or re weld it. so the question is to weld or not to weld. pros and cons?

I wouldn't, but that's just me.

I am a bit tired right now and may have breathed in a bit too many fumes from my car. so I may realize im a fool in the morning as well haha!

It might be handy to be able to take the fender off to pound it straight or to remove it because it is badly mangled and rubs the tire.

it shouldnt hit the tires anymore I will be raising the fenders approximately 3" from where they are currently. and will be bump stopping before the fenders. only true damage that could occur to them would be dings and dents and maybe branches hitting it.

a couple small welds that can be easily cut with a cutoff wheel maybe.

Bolt them on, there is nothing to gain here by welding

A water tight seal against the body so there is no moisture trap. I live where salt is on the roads all winter long and massive amounts of it. Every crevice creates rust.

Bolts.... Easier to remove and pound straight if bent....
