Where might be a good place to order a throttle positioning sensor other than the dealer? Seems a bit hard to find one for that year. It is a 7 pin for a 96 Jetta 2.0, stick shift.

Volkswagen only made the separate TPS available through 1995.
After that, to replace the TPS, you must buy the entire throttle body.

I would check with the guys in the MkIII forum on the Vortex to see if there's another option; or if an older TB with its separate TPS can be made to work with your manifold?

Have you tried to align the sensor with vagcom yet? What is the reason for needing to replace it? Also, what is the part number?

I'm not sure what Vagcom is.
My mechanic thinks it could be the tps.
Primarily it has intermittent cut outs on cold start and once in a while when warm.
I can't get the part to come off once i get the 2 screws loose it begins to pull off but it feels as though something is catching it and preventing it from pulling off. My mechanic says it should just pull off.
Till I can get it off, I can't get any part numbers.
I would think it would be a separate part, otherwise why would it be mounted with 2 screws.
I may just let my mechanic deal with it. I was just wanting to get one ordered.

Unfortunately, that's not always the case. Just because you can remove the part from whatever it attaches to (the TB, in this example) does not mean it is available from the factory as a separate item.

You may be able to get a replacement from aftermarket sources (especially if it is a common problem and someone/some company has a remedy to solve it) whenever something like this arises, but in this case, the 1996 ABA TPS is sold only as part of the TB (from Volkswagen).

I called the dealer this morning and he told me it is a separate part and that he actually had a returned one on the shelf for $134.00 which is why I was wanting to find one elsewhere.
Problem is that in trying to take it off after the 2 screws come out, it comes out part way and seems to catch on something. Not sure if I should try and pry it a bit or if that will break something and make matters worse.
If I could get it off, I would get the part number off of it.
