I moved to Wyoming 22 years ago from the polluted air of Texas. I can remember wondering what was the pink haze hanging over Houston in the 1960's. It's worse now in spite of all the efforts to inspect cars and make them more environmentally friendly. But the skies in Wyoming are a wonderful blue unless there is a wildfire nearby. But once the fire burns out, it' s blue again. And we have no car inspection in Wyoming. but we also don't have 5 billion people driving here. I don't think there will ever be a solution to the pollution problem because the population is growing at an exponential rate and every wants to drive a car. So recovering vapors on my 78 bus seems kind of futile. But that's just my opinion. However I do have some charcoal left over from the fourth of July which I am willing to sell for a nominal fee.
Just kidding. I'm getting ready to do some major work on my bus and I need everyone's help.

Thanks Busdaddy. Unfortunately, the site doesn't show the path for the lower hose for the 78-79 models. (The hose sizes are really helpful though). I know where the two ends of the hose go, but mine looks like it has been spliced together from a couple of hoses and is dangerously close to the fan. So I'm looking trying to find how/where this hose is positioned in the engine compartment and can't seem to find a picture of it online. None of the models at the local shop have the same set up, so I guess I'll just keep looking till I find someone with the same set up.

I have a 79 2.0 FI and my lower canister hose runs directly to nipple on engine tin that's located near alternator.

I'm on my new cell phone, still learning how to use it. But here is the link to my album page 2. Shows where the line hooks up near alternator on fan shroud.

Has anyone replaced the charcoal in the filter on the right? Does it open up or do you have to drill a hole?
Don’t want to disconnect existing until I know the solution. Thanks.
Replacements are no long available. VWH has a different outlet.
