Hi All,
I'm in Redding, CA with a dead 88 Westy. Can anyone recommend a local mechanic?
Thanks,

Kirk,
First off, I do not know any mechanics in Redding.
However . . . A great resource for folks in situations like you is the Roadhaus VW shop review page.
link: http://www.roadhaus.com/shops.php
Redding appears to have 2 shops. (Take reviews with a grain of salt, as some may be posted by the shop themselves, but this does give you a starting point.) Reviews are pasted below.
Sacramento seems to have a LOT of good VW shops, if you need to make it there.
Good luck, brother!

Really helped me out when my starter gave out Monday on a trip from the Bay area to Seattle. Auto Tech dug through their parts pile and found me a working used Starter so that I could install it in my van later that night.

These guys are in Redding, and do a lot of high-end exotic vehicle work:

Even if they won't touch your "classic" Vanagon, I'm sure they'd know who would be good to try next in Redding.
Good luck. |

Hi All,
Thanks for the recommendations. I think all the shops in town are closed for the 4th of July holiday. We'll wait to see if anyone starts answering phones tomorrow... |

There's also guy who does suped up westy syncros in Redding and posts them in the Samba classifieds. Usually fancy paintjobs and SVX engines, but if you sort through the high-dollar westies in the classifieds here you may find him. he's got a website...
wait, here's one of his:

I know this is a very old thread, but I recently found a great mechanic in Redding, CA and wanted to add their information in case anyone finds themselves in need of help, as we did recently.
D&L Motorsports
(530) 223-4933
2651 Henderson Rd, Redding, CA, 96002
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:30pm
https://www.dlmotorsports.net/
We had an excellent experience with D&L Motorsports while on the road in our '91 VW tintop. With 35+ years experience, Martin was extremely knowledgeable about these quirky vehicles. He helped us diagnose and resolve a blinking oil pressure warning light. They did not charge us beyond the $150 assessment fee quoted at the start. Highly recommend.
I have added them to the Roadhaus.com list. |

You can call Burley Motorsports, too. Burl would know. |
