"Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Gloss Ivory Bisque vs. L 282 Lotus White. And when I had trouble finding it, I also used Painter's Touch Heirloom White "
My local Home Depot doesn't seem to carry Ivory Bisque. Instead they have an Ivory Silk that looks very close. Perhaps they changed the name?
For painting two-tone '67 Beetle rims, what sheen am I looking for? I think the grey-black LD-43 used a dulling agent but the lotus white part doesn't say... Got the grey black already from WW. Ssould I spray a Rustoleum clear matte to dull it up? Just over the black?
Thanks! |

Its actually Rustoleum Sunrise red that I found matches LY3D Tornado Red. I'm not sure what the krylon equivilent is. |

Here's a reasonably good match I've found for the orange Westy color used in 1976, MarinoGelb, which was changed slightly in 1977 to be L21H MarinoGelb77:
Krylon makes a line of rattle can paints called "Farm and Implement", and in that series they have a School Bus Yellow, #1809. It is a reasonably close match, but after a few years in the sun it will get us a tinge pinkish.
I just finished doing the back half of this bus using 12 spray cans of that color:

Still waiting for Bill May to report on the Hosta Leaf/Velvet green possibility.
That would be my 63 pictured above^^^^ krylon hosts leaf and ivory white look very close to the PG/SG colors. |

Are the krylon spray bombs water based? I have my car stripped to bare metal and primed with Rustoleum white clean metal primer (oil base). Was thinking of getting the water based krylon in the quart can. It is water based. Then wet sanding it and using Rustoleum water based clear that I found at Home Depot. What do you think? |

I think Krylon has both water and laquer based rattle cans.

OK... cool thread. Looking for two colors. Let me know if you've found a match and maybe I can keep rolling original paint with just a few touchups over my rust repair areas! That would be cool.
L12A Panama Brown
L13A Dakota Beige
If no one else has the answer.... I guess I'll try to figure it out for myself and post it back up here. |

Daverham, Krylon "Sand" color is dead on for "Mexico Beige" ('79 only color, looks almost exactly like "Dakota Beige"). I had a Mexico beige roof clip that I sprayed an area of "Sand" color on, and it blended so well that you couldn't tell the difference. |

Krylon castle rock is a pretty close match to the OG dark grey primer in the cargo area of my 60 bus. |

Awesome thread
I am about to do a paint job on my 'new' 71 super beetle.
Roughly how many can of paint does it take to do a beetle? I'm going to have to order paint online pretty soon, and don't want to order to little |
