Just brought the car back from having it painted yesterday. The color is a VW/ AUDI color Reflex Silver which I though would go well with the black canvas top and chrome trim. So now the fun begins of putting everything back together.

Looks really good!
I was there about 6 weeks ago. It will take a lot of time and patience to get it all back together without doing any damage to a nicely painted body.
Just keep plugging away, one step at a time.

Is that a custom treatment on your engine lid for the
license light mounting?
I see only a couple body side trim holes that need re-opended,
which is always a good thing.

Thanks! Yes it will be a slow but steady process. It had lots of missing parts which Im finding out now as things are going back together.
This slows up the process as I'll have to wait till parts are located.
Color choice was a tough decision but since its a car without air condition I figured something reflective and bright was the way to go. Thanks to Vince "Ghiaaddict" for listing lots of decent parts to help get this thing back on the road. Its been a great help. I think the next big hurtle will be installing the top. I'll keep the thread updated.

You are right... there are a few extra holes now that you mentioned it :roll: ...lol I see the correct ones here:

Atleast they are pretty much hidden by the the license plate.

As for the side trims
Yeah I realized that too once it was painted. I somehow must of missed that one. Pretty easy fix. Guess I'll either take a straight edge or chalk line to determine where to drill. Some tape over the paint and a sharp bit should take care of it. Maybe a dab of paint would be good before installing the clips too.

I asm just realizing, you did exactly the same thing I did. First the Ghia emblems and nose piece and than let's worry about the rest. :lol:

What are you going to use as a header - wood or composite?
I tried the composite and must admit, it didn't work for me. Everything did fit fine (with modifications) but the first time I tried to open the frame fully, all the screws ripped out of the aluminum center.
So, depending which way you go, be careful, it is an expensive part.
And again, for missing parts, you will run into that situation a few more times. Thanks to KGPR, House of Ghia and some other sources, luckily the wait is not to long.

Yeah those pieces were burning a hole in the storage box.
fashion before function :D No actually the smaller fragile stuff was at the top of the boxes. :lol:
It's great to finally gets some parts back on the car after over 2 years. I have the wood bow & was going to install it tonight before realizing the cv header junction to top frame screws were missing.

Bill,

I meant the area above the holes for the license bracket.
Is the lighting just playing tricks or is there a recess in the
engine lid where the rear light housing is mounted?

I agree with Vince, The engine lid looks like it has the wrong shape around the License plate lights

Im afraid Vince is right. That is a custom treatment to the decklid alright. Someone must of performed a custom backup into a wall. :shock: Executed so well one would swear it was made that way. The indent is perfectly isometrical. Not owning a Ghia before this was completely overlooked. Not sure If tapping it back into shape would work being so close to the fold I see a lot of customized decklids out there & this being a late model Im thinking of just running with it for awhile, Maybe fabricate a custom license plate cover and have fun with it?
In the meantime I'll keep a look out for decent decklid.

What type of headlights are you installing? The headlight areas are not stock and don't have buckets.

Buckets are in there. Same as the ones that came off the car. I talked to my buddy who painted the car. Luckily he saves spare paint. I'll go hunting for a decent decklid at the next Bugout. He said no big deal to shoot another one. Live and learn I guess :lol:

Bill, contact Mark over at Mark1 in Walkersville. He has at least one late decklid. Grant at Northside has a few too.

BTW, looks damn good!

Thanks for the info I will defenetely check with them. Until a decent one shows up there are plenty of other projects to get into around here.
Funny thing is I was tempted to scrap this decklid when I first saw it since the lower lip was rusted out so bad. It's had a lot of surgery.

No...dont say that...lol ! Buckets are in there. Same as the ones that came off the car. I talked to my buddy who painted the car. He said no big deal he can shoot another one. Nicely done. Assembly should be the easy part. The guys on TV do it in about 2 days. You should be ready to drive this weekend! :D

Thanks Greg. I just spent the last half hour watching your restoration videos. Impressive skills there ! Im ready to hammer that dent out of the decklid now "taptaptaptaptaptap". 2 days on TV...those guys drink too much Red Bull or something. They make it look too easy !
