For the ~1968-69 long chrome rear reflectors.

The rubber gaskets seem to be very short/tight and the lips don't stay on the chrome when trying to install the reflector base to the fender. Are there any tips or tricks to keeping the rubber affixed long enough to put the base on the car?

The rubber came with the car (I don't know the source or history), but they are stamped with a VW symbol and have a VW part number stamped on them as well. They seem like they will fit fine once on the car. The rubber will stay on the two 'ends' of the reflector fine, but doesn't reach the 'notch' / bottom of the 'V' without holding pretty firmly - almost with two hands.

Can you post some pics? I'm thinking from the sound of it, that you got the short seals (for a 68-69) and housings for a 67 and earlier (long style chrome pieces).

Below are some photos. I can get the seal to reach the notch by stretching, but it is a bit tight.

Base: 311.945.107A
Seal: 311.945.137A

Those appear to be reproductions. No worries, soak them in warm water or let them sit in the sun for a while. They will stretch.
