From the front the drivers side of the roof looks sagged, and from the side i sure hope thats not how you're going to weld it together. The front half of the roof doesnt match the same slope as the rear half.

Agree, looks like the driver side ended up lower.

on a hijack sort of note, I am doing a 3" chop on a 70 . . this pic is from about a week ago:

not a fan. I don't like chopped or lowered. I cringed when I saw the first pic and astonished when I saw the pic of the car before you did this to it. It WAS a damn nice looking ride. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS???????????????????????

Well ya see my mom did that too. At the time i had to many cars. I needed reason to get rid of the blue bug, so i cut the top for use on the gun metal one. Ya see im done with college this spring and cant have to much of this stuff. Can sell it so while not chop it. Chopped is unique, why do you thin ratrod get more attention that grade A restorations, there different.

Well I deceived you though, I did such a nice job painting hey and taking the picture that you didn;t realize the mismatched doors, hood, and floor rot.

I would rish a nice bug!

from the photos, the rear tires look to be sized incorrectly. they are so tall, they look almost like pickup truck tires? the correct radial tire size is 165/80 R15.

I'm thinking the tires are the least of that poor car's worries.

Any updates or progress?

allsidius Wed Aug 24, 2016 11:06 am

This car is toast a long time ago. What a waste.

And before someone asks what do I care... this is a VW enthusiast site.

Sorry, it's a slow process. I'm picky, and have several projects on my hands. I but trig welded the patches closest to the drip rail. They are but welded, I still have to stretch the weld seam with hammer and dolly. I bought wolfsburgwest floor panels and deluxe heat channels. The floors slipped right in. Let me find a pic. I size the front strip and put some compound curve in it with my englishwheel that I built

I'd just like to say that I think this project looks great, and I don't get what people's hangup is about it.

The top was a bit wonky on the driver's side, but it looks like you got that figured out. I think a 4" stretch is just the right amount, and the beefy back tires give it a great aggressive, utilitarian stance. Would keep the current color as well, if possible.

It might not be the California look, but if I thought I had the technical skill to pull it off I'd do exactly this to mine.

Look forward to seeing more progress on this.
