Mmm, stock, the new/er toyota Hiace has 135 horsees. Wonder if we can get that over here, and fit it to our VBubs? Ya know, in place of OLD Subbies/Jettas/Focus.... |

Yours for $5500!
The pics give a weird optical illusion...It looks like a tin top, but it ain't.
It would make a lovely cabin and perhaps that's what it's built for, but I don't think the airflow characteristics would be favorable on those windy afternoons at highway speeds.

Optical illusion is right! I thought that was a building structure in the back ground until I saw the interior shot.

Wait a minute. Not so fast. It was a Westy as can be seen by the flat cross brace at the C pillar and the connections for the galley on the DS. Aircooled--does it run? Maybe at <1k if there is no rust....and runs? Doubtful about that.

Read the ad, no engine no transaxle. Basically a body shell. Not worth anywhere near $5500, maybe $1000 to someone nearby who needs a good body and some firewood. |

OK, so a chicken coop after all. Take the wheels off and set it on the ground. A shame for a clean Westie shell, if it is in fact rust free.
Missed the engine and tranny in the classified. Is the swivel complete, or is it just the bottom half? Dash is there, just no instruments. If I had a nasty, rusty Westy, I'd give him $500 for the shell and the mis stuff like glass, engine hatch steering column and so on.

Why is this a wall of shame item? Let's assume the guy had a great running LT or even a T3 Westy where the body was completely shot and he wanted a camper. The only issue is this guys' body skills were perhaps less than an A plus. He/she wanted a camper and got one. Is that a crime? Does less than a showroom body job eliminate it from consideration? Is this a Wall of Shame candidate? He wanted a truck and got one.

Didn't this one belong to a Samba member way-back-when? |

This is either wall of shame entry or great.
It was originally a 16ยจ caravelle
Converted to 1.9TDI
Front axle is moved forward 200mm to allow him to go to more offroad situations. Sorry no subtitles available from YT yet

I wouldn't call that a "wall of shame" candidate, looks pretty capable.
Not a big fan of the color but to each their own.
Would like to know more about this 200mm business? |

There's so much to like about this compared to a full-size pick-up truck:
- super low deck height
- cab over design, short wheel base gets into small spaces
- miniscule turning radius
- easily carries 12' materials
- much more fun in general
Sure, a Sinka does most of the above but there are probably more Vanagons suited to repurposing this way.

I'm sure I mentioned this before but a junkyard around here had a Syncro tintop converted to a flatbed as his yard dog with a second rear axle and a tow boom attached to the flat floor. Never got a photo. |

He states that this was done to have better approach angle to meet his buddies (probably in cars like Defender/Patrol or similar). This required
- modify the doors (no entry step present)
- move front axle 200mm up front
- increase length of the prop shaft
- Front subframe is moved, no details about mounting of it
No further details have been mentioned in the video other that the winch is removable and will be possible to mount in the back once the wiring will be finished. |

Significantly less offensive than some of the things in this thread, but behold this 83 Westfalia I just grabbed. PO lived in it for awhile, and decided that rather than use curtains, he painted the entire van with blue and brown house paint, including all of the windows...
