Pfff. I'll bet both the slider and the rear hatch are hydraulic assist off the rear pto

Maybe Eric could make one of his door hinge extensions and supersize it. Its also interesting that they bobbed the front doors as well.
A very tastefully done Morphing ,would love to see what the inside looks like.

Could be the ultimate Syncro...

I'm guessing he slider doesn't clear the rear wheel which makes it kind of pointless

Who cares for the slider? I´d like to drive it off road! Looks like much fun! :D

Huh, gullwinged would be pretty cool actually. Nice little built in awning.

May be because of the turning radius of that thing and the wind resistance of that bluff front?! :D :D

Well, this is weird...maybe kind of cool, but definitely weird (from Porland CL)

Custom 1980 VW Vanagon, this vanagon has been heavily modified to look like a double cab vanagon, the roof and rear body section were cut down and welded back together in the creation you see now! Numerous hours were spent to custom build this double cab, The bodywork has been mostly roughed out and put in a tinted primer, and patina was added later. The double cab also has a 2.5 rs Subaru conversion! The motor is a bad boy! it has been built for a off road buggy and as I have been told from the previous owner it has has aftermarket rods and wiseco pistons, aftermarket cams, balanced and blue printed, has dual 44 webers and trimill header with a super trap!! this thing is crazy responsive! and a blast to drive!! A aluminum radiator and electric fan hide under the wood in the bed! and so does the airride tank, pump and valves! that's right the double cab also has airride!!! selling it as a bit of a rat rod patina type van, since there is still things that need to be fine tuned on the body like the side suicide door needs a bit more work as does the rear hatch that opens!!! but it wouldn't take much to take this thing to the next level!! or just drive it the way it is and turns heads everywhere you go $3500 or trade

I think it looks pretty cool, not a shame. Different than all the cookie cutter paint job we have out there. I want to do something like this whenever i going to deal with my front windshield rust.

What was it built for? What are the hooks beside the (former) slidingdoor good for?

Zeitgeist 13 Tue Feb 02, 2016 10:12 am

That van was given to me years before. I built the engine and drove it around for quite a while as a camper, but the rocker rust was really bad. When we bought a farm, I chopped it up and used it as a field truck to tote around tools and plants. It really worked fabulous. We sold it along with the farm, and I just learned that the new owner's 17 year old son wants to fix it up and drive it again.

I could see why that would make a great little farm truck. Nice low loading platform, easy to jump in and out of.

Yep. And this was back in the late '90's, way before Vanagons were a "thing" or there was much of a community, so I didn't think twice about hacking it up for this purpose. Nowadays, I have the tools and skills to fix the rust, which is a bummer.
