You could go visit the castle used in the "Search for the Holy Grail". Castle Anthrax, otherwise known as Doune Castle:

"later this year" and "taking photos of aircooled vw's everywhere i go" seems a little optimistic .........

assuming you'll be flying into prestwick airport and probably staying only few days i doubt if you'll be seeing any aircooled vw's at all except by prior arrangement with the owners and then in their heated garages. this is the 21st century after all.

it may be the 21st centery and all but i know there are some hardcore ACVW owners out there that will be driving their cars. i know , i know i'm not expecting to see VW on every street corner but i've seen them most places my job has taken me so even if its just sitting there its ok with me. as for the later this year i am not looking forward to the famous scotish climate.

i'm fairly hardcore and i left scotland 40 years ago.

You don't say where in Scotland your going to.. or if you visit is an adventurous one or just sightseeing
But I would be enjoying the BRILLIANT hospitality in the pubs in any village .. visiting some of the sights/landmarks steeped in unbelievable history.
Edinburgh is a must, and then there 's a whole heap of unpopulated spectacular coastline.

Or you can just do the usual American vist and see Loch ness and Edinburgh then go home :D

i don't have the pleasure of the usual american visit. i'll be working most of my time as for where i'm going i will be traveling the whole time. but i will be visiting glasgow for sure maybe more.

wingnut, I spent over a week in Glasgow, Scotland over the summer (best part of our trip) the people by far, are the nices I met on travel hands down!!! Was able to pick up some good music at a pub called the
"Nice-N-sleazy" as well as "Capitol" in Glasgow. the O2 ABC theater had a killer show as well when we were there. The train ride over to Edinburgh is only like 10 bucks from Glasgow... check out the castle and the village, be advised the train dose NOT  run all night.
as far as acvw we saw one parked bay window bus if that even counts.
If you need some food places let me know.
ps: be ready to do some walking and remember thay drive on the other side of the road... thay tryed to kill me at least 3 times
