Total bonehead move. I bought a new battery and installed it just like my old one terminals towards the cab put cables on and instantly see smoke coming from under passenger side tire. I very quickly yanked the cables off and realized my new battery has the positive and negative opposite of the old. So alternator is toast and I got that taken care of. My tach, temp gauge and fuel gauge are non operational though. As is my radio. I've checked every fuse that I can think of but no luck. Is it possible I fried them as well? Very stupid and expensive mistake and it will only happen to me once. |

It happens. I did this to my girlfriend's car about 6 months ago. We had to jump it...there were 4 or 5 people trying to help, multiple sets of jumper cables being tried...somehow the cables got swapped and she still blames me! The car would still start. We cruised over to Autozone, bought a 2$ fuse and she was as good as new. The symptoms were the same as you describe....radio, instrument cluster all not working. Check those fuses and replace em' and you should be fine. |
