I have a February 1960 European convertible bug and during a previous restoration the front apron was changed for a later one. I am trying to put the correct one on. Every 1960 I look at has a 3 rib apron, but looking at another post on these forums someone suggested that an early 1960 would have a 4 rib apron the same as a 59.

Do you think that my bug should have a 4 rib apron as it was made in February?

I noticed that the slot for the cable is thin unlike this one (pic taken from Samba ad) Its a lot bigger at one end.

This is the same as the pattern part I bought. I think I will re-profile slot to look the same as yours.

I just pulled a early 60' apron off and it has the same thin profile slot for the cable:

I have another question.

I have odd rear fenders. Unfortunately I have no pictures, but can only describe them. On one side, from the rear (from the rear apron) to the side the sweep/angle is very curved like a 45 degree angle whereas the other side is quite flat and then sweeps almost at a 90 degree angle. Which is correct for my year of car ?

That's an aftermarket front apron. See this post by potentvw here, immediately followed by my post with pictures. Not only is the hole a different shape, but the stamping of the finger/rib pattern isn't as crisp.

Dude, I have 2 1960 cars (well, actually 2 car bodies). One is built on November 1959, chassis number 2781xxx and has 3 ribs:

The other I don't recall. I could take note of chassis numbers and take some pictures, if anyone is interested. I tend to forget this kind of stuff, so PM me if you don't hear from me soon !

I have a 1960 that is chassis number 274**** and has a 4 finger front apron, and it only has 47,000 original miles.

I recently cut the front apron off of my 1960, with vin 276****. It is a 4 finger, and I have no reason to believe it has been replaced, as it's a very clean car. Here's a pic.
