			| Hello,
I'm hoping somebody will have some insight here . . .

The ABS light and the "Electronic Stability Program" light(with a circular arrow in counterclockwise direction, around a triangle) have been on in my dashboard for the last 3 months. I have brought the van into the VW dealership and they want to replace the ABS module - $1600!!

The dealer said they couldn't get a code when they scanned the computer. I also have a data link scanner but couldn't get any codes either when I plugged it in. I suspect that the dealership wants to replace the ABS module only because they see the light is on.

The other thing is that the vehicle will beep three times, but only when the vehicle is in motion. I should also add that within the last 3 months, I replaced all of the brake pads.

What I want to know is how I should approach this? Are there some things I should check before assuming that the problem is in the ABS module? Having done a search on this forum, I found another thread that suggested sending the ABS module to www.modulemaster.com . Is that the best strategy here?

Well, since you changed the brakes around 3 months ago, and the warning light appeared about 3 months ago, it would lead one to conclude that they are interrelated.

Question: did you change the brakes yourself or have a repair shop do the job? Did you use VW brake pads?

$1600 for repair on a Eurovan by the VW dealer.....sounds about right to me. I have had very few repairs done on my '02 Eurovan that cost under $500, most repairs were upwards of $1000. This summer I sunk around $1300 to get the check engine light off. And I'm around 500 miles til the 80,000 major service (belts...) that I anticipate will cost me yet another grand.

I tolerate my Eurovans but I love my Vanagons.

			| The reason I think they're not interrelated is that the dash lights and beeping came on 3 months ago but I replaced the brake pads about 1 month ago. I just wanted to mention that I had replaced the pads but it did not resolve the problem. | |

			| It might be worth your time to replace the ignition switch. <$20
There are a lot of funny things that happen with dash lights when it starts to go and they're notoriously bad.

			| Does the ABS controller not scan or will scan and says no faults found? If it will not scan the controller most likely is bad. I have had a quite a few rebuilt by BBA Reman. Great company to deal with. www.bba-reman.com | |
