My '71 Super has the stock oilbath air cleaner. I service it regulary, it works. I find all sorts of interesting things in it. Any reason to replace it with a modern air filter? |

not really, Oil bath is the best way to filter air without the restrictions caused by paper. The only reason it became obsolete is that its a mess to service so people "forgot" to, leading to engine wear. I've used oil, stock paper ('73), and K&Ns on my bug and still like oil bath the best. |

Cyclone71 said it all.
Oil bath will definitely clean the air better. Unfortunately, it can be messy - especially if you're a little clutzy.
